Alien in the Village
I guess I should start with how I came up with the title for this site. Well, funny story there.
A blog idea had been in the back of my mind for some time. I knew I was not the only “me” out there, but at the same time I felt very ALONE in real life, reading online blogs, Facebook posts, parent group things, blah blah blah.
So, I decided against the word tribe from the get go, but I wanted to find my people or whatever they are called.
- People that use the word tribe seem really good at finding their tribe
- I sucked at finding a tribe over and over and over
- That word is really trendy right now and I don’t feel that I’m a trendy person. Ok, I’m writing a blog, but that doesn’t make me trendy. Right?
- I didn’t want to step on any actual tribes. Hey, when you are on an island of one, or so it feels, don’t throw stones.
So these people, what should I call them? I thought about it in the place of all good ideas, the shower, and still came up empty. So I put up a cryptic Facebook post to my friends asking what do you call a group of people and please don’t say tribe. They said tribe. Then they came back with some better answers, asked for context, we chatted. Words were thrown around…posse, people, tribe again, and then came one discussion where it was said it sounds more like alienation from whatever this group is without a name. Yes, I feel all that. Alienation from a group that doesn’t even know it exists. Or it has never existed because it cannot exist? I am I really alone? Do I only make myself alone? So thoughts of me on this little island are in my head now. I look at the Facebook thread again and see someone said Village. Now I see sad me standing in the hills looking down at little village town in some third person view in my mind. I have no idea why I’m in the hills. I guess I was thinking maybe I could go to the little village and find my people, but they would see me as some alien invader out of the start of a sci-fi movie scene that has played out over and over. That is how Alien in the Village came to be named.
